FAQ

Questions, answered

Is my financial data stored anywhere?
With an account, it's stored in Heir's secure database, encrypted and locked to your login, so it follows you on every device. It's never sold or shared, and you can download or delete it anytime from Settings. Without an account (exploring as a guest), everything stays in your browser only.
Can I use Heir in French?
Yes. Use the language toggle at any time and the whole app follows.
What is Privacy mode?
A quick way to hide every amount on screen, so you can share or present without revealing figures.
Where is my data, and how do I get all of it?
Your numbers live in your account, in Heir's secure database; receipts you attach in Giving are kept in private storage that only you can open. Settings → Data & Migration gives you all of it: a full backup file you can restore later, your transactions as a spreadsheet (CSV), and a PDF summary. Paid members can also download an offline copy of Heir with everything in it (see below).
What is the offline copy of Heir?
A copy of the whole app, with your data and receipts, that opens on your own computer: no internet, no account, nothing sent anywhere. It never updates, so tax figures stay as they were the day you downloaded it, and your changes are saved in that computer's browser. Each copy is made for its owner: it carries your name and a license ID, and it's for your personal use. It's for members who have paid the $99 membership, from 30 days after paying (once the money-back window has passed). Find it in Settings → Membership → Keep Heir forever. It works best in Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
Can I share my offline copy?
No. Each copy is made for one person and carries your name and a license ID, so it can be traced back to you. It's for your own or your household's use on your own devices; sharing, selling or posting it isn't allowed (see the Terms). You can download up to 3 copies in any 30 days, for example for a second computer.
What happens if I cancel?
Nothing is deleted. Your account stays open read-only: you can sign in, see everything and export it anytime; you just can't make changes. Before you cancel, Heir offers your offline copy and a full backup. If you come back and have already paid the $99, you only restart the $1 a month.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If Heir isn't right for you, write to hello@heir-hq.com within 30 days of paying the $99 membership and we'll refund it in full. A refund ends your paid membership, which is why the offline copy opens only after those 30 days. Asking your bank to reverse the charge instead counts as a refund.
What if Heir ever closes?
You would hear from us ahead of time, and the offline copy would open to every member, so you keep Heir and everything in it on your own computer. Your data would not be deleted before you had the chance to download it.
Is Heir financial or tax advice?
No. Heir helps you organize your money and see estimates, such as tax savings or projections, for information only. For decisions about your taxes or investments, check with a qualified professional.
